Alex MacLean
I was fortunate enough to be able to be a spectator of a presentation given by Alex MacLean, a famous aerial photographer whose work has been published into multiple books which are printed in various languages and admired across the world. Needless to say, he is incredibly talented in what he does and also and his concepts of what make a good picture really stood out to me. He introduced the idea of capturing the forth dimension, which is the use of time in a photograph. In theory this seems impossible because a photograph is a still moment in time so how in the world are you supposed to represent a change in time in a single moment of time, this was a perplexing idea until he showed us some of his pictures that represent time.
These three pictures all represent his idea of how you can take a picture that portrays a feeling of time. Not only do these pictures portray time but they also exhibit another topic that Alex brought up which is the human impact on the earth (excluding flamingos) The decaying planes picture represents how we are a very wasteful society along with the past housing community. The planes picture stood out to me the most however, not only due to the fact that i am obsessed with aviation but because there are many features to the picture that makes it appealing to the eye. There is a strong triangular pattern and uniformity in the planes in the upper portion of the picture and then the patern starts to break off into more dysfunctional "destroyed" planes.
